Monthly Overview:

The Crab is out of its shell! Until September 23, the Sun is in Virgo, your third house of communication and kindred spirits, firing up your gift of gab and packing your social calendar. Let the ideas and conversations flow, Cancer. Jupiter is also spending its first full month in Virgo and this same intellectual sector—it’s here from August 11, 2015 until September 9, 2016—so you'll feel extra inspired to get your message out to the world in a creative way! Kindred spirits and like-minded people could also show up as valuable collaborators this month. The third house is ruled by Gemini, the sign of the Twins. Dynamic duos will be the trend—so stay open to teaming up with a powerful, inspiring plus-one!

Overall, September is a busy month, with two game-changing eclipses (a Virgo solar eclipse, and an Aries lunar eclipse), communication planet Mercury going retrograde (backward) from September 17-October 9, while harmonious Venus and transformational Pluto correct course and end their retrograde spins. Structured Saturn will also change signs and settle in to Sagittarius for the next two years, bringing discipline to your health and fitness sector. Much of this action happens in the second half of September, so enjoy those last easy-breezy days of summer while you can!

On September 13, the Virgo partial solar (new moon) eclipse sweeps in to your third house of dialogue, ideas and community. All eclipses bring change and unexpected events, and solar eclipses can mark a bold new beginning. Stay tuned: Important news or a message could arrive today that changes the course of events. You may have an unexpected opportunity to get involved in a locally-based effort or a collaborative project, perhaps one involving teaching, writing or media. A friend or sibling may figure in to any turn of events today.

Not everything will unfold at once, though. This is the first of several upcoming eclipses in Virgo, and it’s part of a Pisces/Virgo eclipse series that began on March 20 and will last through 2017. This two-year series lights up the communication-driven third and ninth houses of your chart, prompting you to think differently, express your ideas and evolve intellectually. Virgo rules your third house of local affairs, while Pisces governs your worldly and cross-cultural ninth house, so these eclipses will shift how you engage both locally and globally. You may feel a tug to get in touch with your higher purpose, and organize your lifestyle to pursue that. At this mid-September eclipse, you could get an opportunity to write, teach or launch a new multimedia project. Anything that begins on this day will blossom over the next six months, so make your move!

A few days later, you could have some miscommunications, especially on the home front, as communicator Mercury turns retrograde (backward) in Libra, your fourth house of roots, relatives and residences, from September 17-October 9. During this three-week period, you may have issues with a family member or roommate. Or you may just find yourself in a more nostalgic mood, as the tender fourth house amps up your already sensitive side. Take any emotional rollercoaster moments in stride—and don't take out your erratic feelings on innocent bystanders. Since Mercury retrograde rules communication, technology and transportation, all the standard rules apply: Double-check your appointments, be careful with what you put in writing, and give yourself extra travel time, as delays can foil your commute.

Also on September 17, structured Saturn reenters Sagittarius, your sixth house of health, fitness and efficiency. On December 23, 2014, regimented Saturn moved into Sagittarius for the first time since 1988. At this time, Saturn began bringing structure to your daily life—how you manage the nitty-gritty details of your schedule and your wellbeing. Are you organized, stocked up on vitamins and committed to your own self-care? The first half of 2015 may have been strong in these themes. On June 14, Saturn backed into Scorpio—your fifth house of love and creativity—capping off a three-year cycle of growth around your emotions, romance and self-expression. You had the summer to learn any final lessons here, perhaps upgrading your relationship status or taking yourself more seriously as an artist. You may have changed your lifestyle to accommodate regular date nights, or to make room for a baby (the fifth house rules fertility). Perhaps you made the difficult decision NOT to have children (or to have more children), or to stop certain romantic habits that didn’t serve you (including a pessimistic attitude).

Now the planet of boundaries is back in this very practical sector of your chart, and it’s staying until December 19, 2017. So get ready to roll up your sleeves and focus on all the things that ARE in your control, like how often you work out, how regularly you get check-ups and how you manage your work affairs, including your filing systems and service providers. If you're not efficient in the day-to-day aspects of your life, Saturn will give you a much-needed wakeup call! The best way to work with this influence is to stay disciplined and to put systems in place that help your life run smoothly. You may decide to work with a coach, a trainer or a professional organizer, since Saturn rules experts.

Waving that white flag? On September 22, deep-digging Pluto goes direct (forward) in Capricorn, your seventh house of one-on-one relationships, after a five-month retrograde (backward) spin. Since April 16, the powerful planet may have been dredging up all kinds of power struggles in partnerships, both romantic and professional. Now, interpersonal dynamics should smooth over, mostly because (hopefully) you've done the internal work necessary to realize where true power lies. You can't control, manipulate or otherwise strong-arm partners—just as they can't do the same to you, unless you let them. The choice is yours, Crab.

Once the Sun enters Libra, your fourth house of domesticity, on September 23, you're in your Cancerian wheelhouse, nesting and resting. If you've had a hectic summer, you can power down a bit, taking more time to connect on emotional levels with your closest friends and relatives, as well as with yourself. When was the last time you penciled in a "me" night, with a comforting dinner and a relaxing bath? Chances are, you're due for some self-care! For the next four weeks, take it slow, Cancer. With Mercury retrograde in this same zone, you’ll want to tread lightly with relatives and roommates, as friction can run high. However, Mercury retrograde is a great time to reconnect with your past, so a trip to your hometown or a family reunion might be in order. Just direct any visiting kin to the nearest hotel, rather than opening the doors to Chateau Cancer—best to err on the safe side while Mercury is retrograde through October 9.

Despite the focus on your personal life, the month ends with a game-changing September 27 total lunar (full moon) eclipse in Aries, your tenth house of professional achievement. This eclipse is the last of a three annual eclipses in this ambitious zone (the last two were October 2013 and October 2014), which arrived to push your professional game to new heights. Is it time for you to take center stage on the career front? This bold, black-and-white eclipse catapults you to a whole new stratosphere, allowing you to own your talents and maybe even gain some prestige in the process. You don't do what you do for the status, but that doesn't make your success any less sweet. Eclipses come in to sweet away what no longer serves us, making way for a much better fit. Since the tenth house rules authority figures and leadership, you could earn a promotion or see a changing of the guard at your company. Perhaps a department is restructured or a boss/manager is “eclipsed” out of your life (announcing a move to a new company or department, for example). Since the tenth house rules males, this eclipse also could highlight any hang-ups you have with men, or buried feelings toward your father or an important paternal figure. Since eclipses shake us free of situations and people that no longer serve our highest goals, you could be due for a whole new attitude, outlook or professional path. Expect the unexpected, and get ready to evolve!
